The 1000KVA dry type transformer is a large-capacity indoor distribution unit, widely used in heavy-duty industrial plants, large commercial complexes, central hospital power supply and medium-to-large data center power distribution systems. Rated at 1000kVA, it can deliver 800kW active power under a standard 0.8 power factor, handling heavy continuous loads for large power consumers.
From years of site commissioning and technical project review, I regard the 1000kVA class as a key threshold for indoor dry-type power design. It provides a substantial power upgrade compared to the 800kVA model, and is often chosen for projects where power demand leaves little margin for future expansion. Copper windings are fully encapsulated with epoxy resin, cooled by natural air (AN) or forced air (AF). With no insulating oil inside, fire and leakage risks are eliminated. It maintains low partial discharge and good reliability in enclosed indoor power rooms.
The transformer adopts low-loss silicon steel laminated core, epoxy cast high-voltage windings and foil-wound low-voltage windings. The standard 10kV/0.4kV version converts medium voltage from the grid to 400V low voltage for site loads. Dyn11 connection group suppresses zero-sequence and harmonic currents, balancing three-phase voltage. This stability is essential when the system carries large numbers of inverters, motors and uneven distributed loads.
In real engineering practice, 1000KVA dry type transformers are the preferred option for main power rooms of large manufacturing bases, downtown shopping malls, logistics hubs and large medical buildings. Unlike oil-immersed transformers, it requires no oil collection pits or fire containment structures. This simplifies civil construction and saves valuable floor space. Routine maintenance mainly includes periodic dust cleaning on windings and core, inspection and tightening of terminal connections, and continuous monitoring of operating temperature and load rate.
I recall a manufacturing base expansion project that exposed a common design blind spot. At 1000kVA, heat generation and noise both rise significantly. Compared with oil transformers of the same rating, dry-type units have higher unit cost and louder operating noise. In that project, the power room had limited ventilation area. Even with temperature fans installed, sustained full-load operation still caused slow temperature rise. This experience tells me that sufficient ventilation layout, proper noise control planning and reliable temperature monitoring systems must be reserved in the early design phase. Inadequate airflow will accelerate insulation aging and shorten the transformer service life.
