The 800KVA dry type transformer is a high-capacity indoor distribution device widely adopted in large industrial parks, super commercial complexes, hospital central power supplies and medium-sized data center power systems. Rated at 800kVA, it can deliver 640kW active power under a 0.8 power factor, serving as core power equipment for heavy-load applications.
With years of experience in on-site installation, commissioning and after-sales technical support, I see the 800kVA model as a popular high-power upgrade above 630kVA. It solves the issue of insufficient load margin when 630kVA units struggle during peak power demand, while avoiding the heavier engineering costs that come with stepping up to 1000kVA. Copper windings are fully encapsulated by epoxy resin. Cooling is achieved by natural air convection (AN) or forced air cooling (AF). There is no insulating oil inside, so risks of leakage and fire are removed. It delivers low partial discharge and good corrosion resistance, well suited for enclosed indoor power rooms and public spaces with high foot traffic.
The unit is built with low-loss silicon steel laminated core, epoxy cast high-voltage windings and foil-type low-voltage windings. The standard 10kV/0.4kV variant steps down grid medium voltage to 400V for industrial and civil loads. The Dyn11 connection group suppresses zero-sequence and harmonic currents, balances three-phase voltage and current, and maintains stable supply even with plenty of variable-frequency drives and unbalanced loads.
From real engineering practice, 800KVA dry type transformers are commonly selected for main power rooms of large factories, city shopping malls, logistics parks, hospitals and university buildings. Unlike oil-filled transformers, it does not require oil pits or fire baffles, lowering civil work difficulty and occupied floor area, and cutting fire-related maintenance expenses. Routine maintenance is straightforward: regular dust removal on windings and core, retightening loose terminal bolts, and real-time monitoring of operating temperature and load rate.
I want to mention a common oversight I found in one commercial park substation project. As capacity increases, heat output rises noticeably. Compared with oil transformers of the same rating, the 800kVA dry type model carries higher unit cost and generates louder operating noise. In that project, designers squeezed the power room layout and omitted auxiliary cooling fans. Once the transformer ran near full load, temperature kept climbing and triggered repeated over-temperature protection. This tells us that adequate air circulation and matched temperature control systems become even more critical at this capacity level. Poor ventilation will accelerate insulation aging and cause unexpected shutdowns.
